It's been almost a year since I saw you. One final mofongo before I moved all the way out west, to a land of granola and organic food. Where the concept of “double fried” is sacrilegious. Where you’re often confused with a banana. Blasphemy.

I’ve spotted your anemic cousins at Whole Foods. They’re expensive little specimens: $1.00 each. Small, thin, hard, no taste.

Crushed dreams of tostones and asopao on a cold rainy night. My heart en un pilón.

Yesterday I saw you in a menu and my heart leapt with joy. Oil, salt, mayo-ketchup…love at first sight.

Now I need to go for a run.
